Bayou Energy September 2026 Utility Update
Overview
- New Utility Support: Added support for Appalachian Power, Idaho Power, New Hampshire Electric Cooperative, and Liberty Utilities New Hampshire. This adds over 1.7 million meters, bringing our total coverage to 77% of US electrical meters.
- API Improvements:
- the intervals endpoint now accepts
latest_onlyandupdated_after, so you can pull one value per period, and only what's changed since your last request. - the embedded Bayou customer onboarding form can now be set to better fit the iframe you size for it, using its wider layout and taking less vertical space.
- some utility portals stop a connection partway through and wait for the customer to take some action. The Bayou onboarding form now tells the customer what the utility is asking for, so they can do that and then complete the connection process.
- the intervals endpoint now accepts
- Bill and Interval Data Improvements: Parsing and data-quality improvements across 22 utilities, including expanded support for community solar bills and more reliable interval retrieval.
- Utility Website Updates: Adapted to portal, login, and MFA changes at over a dozen utilities, and made our authentication and data retrieval more resilient at many more.
More info on all of these below, and check out our utility support page for detailed info on our coverage and reliability.
New Utility Coverage
- Appalachian Power — support for authentication, bills, and hourly intervals; adds ~1 million meters in Virginia and West Virginia.
- Idaho Power — support for authentication, bills, and hourly intervals; adds ~640k meters in southern Idaho and eastern Oregon.
- New Hampshire Electric Cooperative — support for authentication and bills; adds ~89k meters in New Hampshire.
- Liberty Utilities New Hampshire — support for authentication and bills; adds ~48k meters in New Hampshire.
API Improvements
Interval data: one value per period, and only what changed
GET /api/v2/customers/{customer_id}/intervals takes two new optional query parameters, both off by default.
latest_only=true — Utilities sometimes report the same period more than once with different values, and Bayou returns each reading as its own interval. This collapses them to a single interval per meter and period, built from the most recent reading.
updated_after=<timestamp> — Returns only the intervals Bayou recorded after the time you pass, so a daily job can pull what changed since last run. The cutoff applies to when we recorded the reading; the existing start and end parameters still filter on the period covered.
Used together they give the current value for every period that changed since your last sync:
GET /api/v2/customers/{customer_id}/intervals?latest_only=true&updated_after=2026-09-01T00:00:00Z
See the intervals endpoint reference for the full parameter list.
Onboarding form sizing
The form can now make fuller use of a narrow hosting iframe. By default it switches between its wide layout and its narrow phone layout at 768px, so an embed sized to the recommended 480px gets the phone layout, with empty space above and below the card.
Pass fitToFrame to opt into a form sized for the frame you give it:
Bayou.loadOnboardingForm(element, companyId, onboardingToken, callback, { fitToFrame: true })The wide layout then starts at 470px and the card sits closer to the top, so a 480px embed shows the full desktop layout in the width it already has.
Handling Utility Portal Account Issues
Some utility portals stop a connection partway through and wait for the customer to take an action on the utility's own website. The Bayou onboarding form now raises the requirement to the customer so that they can perform the needed action and return to complete the connection.
The four actions a utility can ask for:
- Link a utility account to the web login. The sign-in works, but no utility account is attached to it.
- Reset the password. The portal rejects the current password, or has locked the login after repeated failed sign-ins.
- Verify or activate the account. The portal reports the account is not activated, or will not open it until the customer contacts the utility.
- Set up every required security method. PSE&G New Jersey will not open the account until all of them are enrolled.
Here's the list of utilities that now surface these types of account issues in the Bayou onboarding form:
- AEP Utilities (AEP Ohio, AEP Texas, Appalachian Power)
- Avangrid Utilities (Central Maine Power, NYSEG, Rochester Gas & Electric, United Illuminating)
- FirstEnergy Utilities (Jersey Central Power & Light, Met-Ed, Ohio Edison, Penelec, Penn Power, Potomac Edison, The Illuminating Company, Toledo Edison, West Penn Power)
- Duke Energy
- Eversource
- PSE&G New Jersey
- Central Hudson
If you've integrated the Bayou Onboarding form into your product, there's nothing you need to do to take advantage of this feature.
Until a later sign-in attempt produces a different result, the auth_status field of the Customer record will show the value onboarding_customer_action_required.
In some cases, a Bayou refresh performed on the customer's behalf may encounter a required action. When that happens, the auth_status field of the Customer record will be set to refresh_customer_action_required.
Bill and Interval Data Improvements
We made bill parsing, bill retrieval, and interval data improvements at 22 utilities over August and September: AES Ohio, Ameren, Atlantic City Electric, Baltimore Gas and Electric, BC Hydro, ComEd, Consumers Energy, Delmarva Power, Duke Energy, Eversource, the FirstEnergy utilities, Florida Power & Light, National Grid NY, PECO, Pepco, PG&E, PPL Electric, Rhode Island Energy, Rochester Gas & Electric, Southern Company, Versant Power, and Xcel Energy.
The changes include support for redesigned bill layouts and newly recognized tariff names, more reliable identification of meters and account numbers on multi-meter, dual-fuel, and master-account bills, expanded parsing of solar and community solar credits, and more complete interval retrieval.
Utility Website Updates
We continue to adapt as utilities update their portals, login systems, and security measures. Some of the changes we handled since the last update:
- AES Ohio changed its bill tokens and IDs
- Ameren changed the response it returns for bills it cannot produce
- Central Hudson added Imperva bot protection to its portal
- Duke Energy upgraded its residential portal
- Eversource added VPN and proxy detection to its login, and a second block page behind it
- National Grid began refusing bill downloads from some connections
- PG&E changed how its session cookies behave
- PSEG New Jersey changed its MFA and password pages
- Southern Company replaced the API behind its portal
